Requests for the training of mediators were directed to the Academy of Justice

The Mediation Council continues to train mediators.

Thus, in accordance with the Law of the Republic of Azerbaijan “On Mediation” for the purpose of training mediators was announced by the Mediation Council, as a result of which the appeal of about 400 people was accepted. The received appeals were directed to the Academy of Justice of the Ministry of Justice, which is the only certified mediation training institution in the Republic of Azerbaijan. If they meet the requirements of the legislation, the applicants will be involved in trainings by the Academy of Justice in groups of 15 people.

Due to the fact that face-to-face trainings are not allowed in the COVID-19 pandemic and a maximum of 15 people in each group are allowed to be trained in accordance with the legislation of the Republic of Azerbaijan, the timing of the trainings is still unknown and may take several months.

Further appeals related to trainings must be submitted directly to the Academy of Justice in accordance with the “Rules for training and professional development of mediators” approved by the Resolution No. 383 of the Cabinet of Ministers of the Republic of Azerbaijan dated September 5, 2019.

It should be noted that in accordance with the Decree of the President of the Republic of Azerbaijan on “Deepening of the Reforms in the Judicial-Legal System Reforms” dated April 3, 2019 and the “Law on Mediation” on December 2 last year, a working group has been set up with the support of the EU Delegation to Azerbaijan to establish a Mediation Council and apply mediation legislation.

As a result of the activities of the working group, the charter of the Mediation Council was agreed with all relevant bodies. The National Confederation of Entrepreneurs (Employers) Organizations of the Republic of Azerbaijan and the Bar Association of the Republic of Azerbaijan as founders established the “Mediation Council” non-profit legal entity on February 12 this year and it was registered by the Ministry of Justice on February 16.
