Statement Of The Azerbaijan Entrepreneurs Confederation On Armenia’s Terrorist Attack In The City Of Ganja

We would like to note that on October 11, 2020, the Armenian Armed Forces fired missiles at Ganja, the second largest city in Azerbaijan, located far from the front. As a result, one residential building was completely destroyed, 10 people died, 34 people, including 16 women and 6 minors, were injured, more than 10 residential buildings and 100 different facilities were damaged. The purposeful targeting of Azerbaijani civilians and infrastructure by Armenia in Ganja is a clear example of another act of vandalism and state terror of Armenia.

In this regard, we would like to briefly inform you that Armenia’s military aggression against Azerbaijan began in 1991 and Nagorno-Karabakh and 7 regions surronding Nagorno Karabakh (Kalbajar, Lachin, Gubadli, Jabrayil, Zangilan, Aghdam and Fizuli) were occupied by Armenians. and these territories, which have been occupied for 30 years, are not disputed territories. According to UN resolutions (822, 853, 874, 884), as well as norms and principles of international law, including the Helsinki Final Act of the Conference on Security and Cooperation in Europe (1975), these territories are historically and internationally recognized as the territories of the Republic of Azerbaijan.

As part of the new aggression against the Republic of Azerbaijan, the Armenian armed forces deliberately targeted the civilian population and infrastructure of Azerbaijan in violation of the basic norms and principles of international law, including international humanitarian law, as well as the relevant international obligations of Armenia.

As a result of Armenian artillery and missile attacks, 41 Azerbaijani civilians were killed, 200 were injured, more than 300 residential buildings and civilian objects were destroyed.

Missile attacks on Ganja, Azerbaijan’s second largest city, the industrial city of Mingachevir, as well as the Khizi and Absheron regions of Azerbaijan, targeting densely populated areas and infrastructure from Armenia, are a deliberate provocation to expand the zone of military operations and involve third countries in the conflict.

There are solid facts that the Azerbaijani civilians and infrastructure were fired from the Azerbaijani territories of Armenia including, Gorus, Sisyan, Vardenis, Jermuk and Baird.

This evidence collected with the participation of local and foreign experts, including foreign journalists, will be presented to relevant international organizations.

We call on the international community and all our international partners to urge Armenia to abide by the norms and principles of international law, including its obligations to international humanitarian law, and to urgently comply with UN Security Council resolutions and the full and unconditional withdrawal of Armenian troops from Azerbaijan.
