The victims of the 20 January tragedy were remembered in the ASK
The National Confederation of Entrepreneurs (Employers) Organizations of the Republic of Azerbaijan remembered the 20 January tragedy martyrs. Speaking at the event dedicated to the 29th anniversary of the 20 January tragedy, Senior Adviser to ASK Bakhtiyar Agayev said that 20 January tragedy is one of the bloodiest pages of our independence.
It was noted that thanks to the internal and foreign policy led by President Mr. Ilham Aliyev, the independence of our country has strengthened, and international reputation has grown.
Araz Bagirov, Chief Lawyer of the ASK, stated that the people of Azerbaijan, who once opposed the gigantic Soviet Empire, which ruled sixth part of the globe, had demonstrated their struggle, indifference and pride without any hesitation. Unexpected atrocities were committed in Baku on January 19-20, 1990, in order to suppress the struggle of the Azerbaijani people for democracy and national liberation by the leadership of the former USSR. As a result, innocent people, including children, elderly and women, were killed. It was noted that people who suffered severe bodily injuries 29 years after the tragedy, who lost some their body parts, still carry the pain of this tragedy.
Later, the martyrs’ memories were commemorated with a minute of silence.
