“The role of the private sector in ensuring decent work and inclusive development towards Sustainable Development Goals” was discussed
Today, Azerbaijan Entrepreneurs Confederation (ASK) and International Labor Organization (ILO) office in Azerbaijan jointly organized a seminar on “The role of the private sector in ensuring decent work and inclusive development towards Sustainable Development Goals”.
At the opening remark, ASK Acting Secretary General Kristina Mammadova said that the workshop will contribute to the implementation of the defined priorities of the Sustainable Development Goals in Azerbaijan.
Representative of the Ministry of Economy Elnur Ibrahimov said that SDGs are generally aimed at improving people’s well-being and noted that the National Coordination Council for Sustainable Development operates in Azerbaijan. E. Ibrahimov said that it is difficult for the government agencies to implement the SDGs priorities individually and for this purpose all stakeholders should be involved in this process.
Delevar Barekzai, Advisor on SDGs at the United Nations Resident Coordination Office, also confirmed this and urged all social partners to join the effort: “Priorities has been defined to Azerbaijan in this area with the public and private sectors and all necessary technical assistance for this purpose are providing”.
Yashar Hamzayev, ILO National Coordinator for Azerbaijan, said the high-level SDG forum was held in the United States in July this year, and informed participants of the seminar about the ILO Director General’s special report titled “Future of Work: The End of Time for Speech”. He said that the subject of the seminar is appropriate with the declaration adopted during the ILO Conference in Geneva in June this year.
According to Y.Hamzayev, the Employment strategy for 2019-2030 has been approved by the President of the Republic of Azerbaijan and our country has joined 58 conventions and protocols in this area.
At the same time, Y. Hamzayev highly appreciated the establishment of a joint trilateral commission of the Government, Entrepreneurs Confederation and Trade Unions.
Then the seminar continued with presentations and discussions.
