The UN Global Compact was discussed with the organization of the ASK
A webinar on the UN Global Compact was organized by the Azerbaijan Entrepreneurs Confederation on September 15, 2020. The webinar was attended by representatives of the UN Global Compact Headquarters, the UN Resident Coordinator’s Office and SOCAR-AQS, the leading company of the Global Compact from Azerbaijan.
First of all, Kristina Mammadova, Acting Deputy Secretary General of the Azerbaijan Entrepreneurs Confederation, greeted the participants and stressed that the purpose of the meeting was to promote the Sustainable Development Goals in the business environment, to unite and support each other in this direction.
She noted that the revitalization of global cooperation is one of the important principles of the UN Sustainable Development. It is very important to intensify the activities of business associations and public associations by uniting business representatives around the ASK.
Ms. Claire Kells, Project Manager of the UN Global Compact, outlined the position of her organization in her presentation and based her presentation on a comprehensive report on 10 UN principles and 17 principles of sustainable development. She noted that the United Nations Global Compact was ratified in 2000 under the leadership of then-Secretary-General Kofi Annan. Over the past 20 years, more than 10,000 businesses have made commitments to these principles. These principles are promoted in more than 160 countries.
Gunay Huseynalizadeh, a representative of SOCAR AQS, the Leading Company of the Global Agreement, spoke about the importance of these principles in the company’s activities.
Ms. Claire Kells, General Manager for Corporate Engagement of the Global Agreement, briefed the participants on the Global Agreement and the rules for acceding to the Agreement. The UN Global Compact, which brings together more than 10,000 businesses and more than 3,000 non-business organizations, is the world’s largest corporate sustainability initiative.
Gunay Huseynalizadeh, a representative of SOCAR AQS, spoke about the company’s work in the field of sustainability and its commitments under the UN Global Compact. Development Coordination Officer at the UN Resident Coordinator’s Office Shamsiyya Mustafayeva answered the participants’ questions and invited companies to join the Agreement.
