A Seminar On “Promoting A Gender Responsive Just Transition Towards Environmental Sustainability In The Republic Of Azerbaijan” Is Being Held

Within the framework of the “29 Climate Talks: Road to COP29” series, the seminar on “Promoting a gender responsive just transition towards environmental sustainability in the Republic of Azerbaijan” has started its work with the joint organization of the Ministry of Labor and Social Protection of the Population, International Labor Organization (ILO), Azerbaijan Trade Unions Confederation and the National Confederation of Entrepreneurs (Employers) Organizations of the Republic of Azerbaijan.

The two-day event will be attended by government officials, representatives of international institutions, entrepreneurs and trade unions, local and international experts.

At the opening of the seminar, Deputy Minister of Labor and Social Protection of the Population Anar Aliyev noted the negative effects of climate change, which is currently one of the global problems, the importance of a sensitive and fair approach to gender principles and inclusion in the processes towards environmental sustainability.

In November of this year, Azerbaijan will host the 29th session of the Conference of the Parties to the UN Framework Convention on Climate Change (COP29), and COP29 will play an important role in mobilizing the international community to make progress in the fight against climate change. The importance of the ILO’s project to promote a gender responsive just transition through the exchange of knowledge and experience to support countries in the process of preparing for COP29 was highlighted.

It was emphasized that the current seminar, organized jointly with ILO, serves to strengthen the joint efforts of entrepreneurs and trade unions and other interested parties to contribute to COP29, to promote social dialogue for the preparation and sharing of experiences for that most prestigious and prestigious global event, and other important goals.

Vladanka Andreeva, the resident coordinator of the UN in Azerbaijan, Javanshir Alkhasov, the deputy chairman of Azerbaijan Trade Unions Confederation, Ziya Hajili, the advisor to the president of the National Confederation of Entrepreneurs (Employers) Organizations of the Republic of Azerbaijan, Cristina Martinez, Regional Office of the ILO for Eastern Europe and Central Asia for Enterprise Development and Green Jobs Chief specialist made speeches and emphasized the importance of the topic covered by the seminar and the importance of knowledge and experience exchange in this topic.

The agenda of the seminar includes conducting panel discussions on joint activities with social partners in the process of preparation for COP29, as well as preparation of a joint position document on the labor market, gender equality in climate change activities, special emphasis on ensuring inclusion, sharing of best international practices, implementation of knowledge and experience exchanges, etc.
