The Confederation of Entrepreneurs of Azerbaijan represents the private sector at the “COP29 Organizing Committee”
On March 7, the second meeting of the Organizing Committee was held in connection with the holding of the 29th Session of the Conference of the parties to the UN Framework Convention on Climate Change (COP29). Samir Nuriyev, the Head of the Administration of the President of Azerbaijan, the Chairman of the Organizing Committee, who opened the meeting, pointed out that the composition of the Organizing Committee has been further expanded by the order of the head of state, inclusion was ensured by the representation of Deputies of the Milli Majlis and civil society, and informed about the work done during the period.
It should be noted that the 29th Session of the Conference of the parties to the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (COP29) in Baku is regarded as a special success among the work carried out in the country for sustainable development of the economy. By the Order of the president of the Republic of Azerbaijan, the private sector is represented by the National Confederation of entrepreneurs (employers) organizations of the Republic of Azerbaijan, and Secretary General Mrs. Natavan Mammadova has been included in the Organizing Committee. It is no coincidence that one of the most important challenges in the modern world is to increase the effective partnership between the public and private sector to the next level in quality and to optimally distribute risks and responsibilities between the public and private sectors. It is considered one of the important instruments for Sustainable Development and its main objective is to stimulate the flow of international investments in this area to our country through the improvement of the appropriate investment climate. The previous event, COP28, took place last year in Dubai, United Arab Emirates. The 29th event in Baku is expected to be a major event bringing together world leaders, government officials, scientists, NGOs and other stakeholders to discuss and negotiate a range of climate change issues. In general, as required by the Paris Agreement COP actions aim to make progress towards limiting global carbon dioxide (CO2) levels to 1.5 degrees Celsius, as was the case in the pre-industrial period. It is no coincidence that by the order of the head of state, 2024 was declared the “Year of solidarity with the Green world” in Azerbaijan. The Ministry of economy has included the transition to a “green” economy and becoming a “green” energy supplier among the priorities of our country’s economic policy. Compared to 1990, Azerbaijan aimed to reduce the amount of greenhouse gases by 2030 by 30 percent, and by 2050-by 40 percent.
“The President of the Republic of Azerbaijan declared the lands freed from occupation a “Green Energy” zone and the action plan for 2022-2026 was approved.
In order to achieve these goals, the private sector has great responsibilities and obligations, and the Confederation of Entrepreneurs of Azerbaijan is ready to support business in successfully implementing this mission.
